I began working in payroll in 1988 managing Oracle Corporation’s payroll department. Throughout my career I worked for various corporations in increasingly demanding roles.

I became an independent payroll consultant in 2001 operating as L Marie Consulting. I consulted for small companies, mid-size corporations and companies with 20,000+ employees. I led payroll projects for payroll system implementations, system conversions, outsourcing, and time and attendance implementations. I advised corporations on payroll accounting and procedural improvements.

I became eligible to take the Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) exam in 1992 and passed on my first try. I served on the APA Certification Advisory Group from 1997-1998. I have taken the exam a second time for recertification, again passing on my first attempt.

I drew on my years of payroll knowledge, my B.S. in Accounting and past experiences taking the CPP exam to write The Practical CPP Study Guide.
